Southern India Floods: World Vision continues emergency aid to 8000 families

World Vision India relief items are currently being distributed to 8000 families in the southern India states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, the worst-affected states in the recent floods. World Vision is also actively involved in addressing the shelter needs of flood-affected people as hundreds of houses have collapsed.

The latest update on World Vision’s relief distribution is as follows:

Vijayawada

  • 600 individuals in Lanchelarevu village Vijayawada have received cooked food (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
  • Non-food items and dry rations have been procured for about 2500 families
  • Non-food items comprise clothing and floormats and the dry rations include rice, lentils, oil, salt and sugar
  • World Vision hopes to distribute relief items to a further 6000 families

Mehboobnagar

  • 455 families have received relief materials
  • World Vision has procured clothing and dry rations for another 3000 families

Bijapur

  • More than 500 families in the villages of Kavalangi and Lambani Thanda, and a few beneficiaries in Madhabavi, have received food and non-food items
  • The World Vision team is also procuring cooked food and non-food items for a further 2600 families whose houses have collapsed
