Your own time capsule of dreams! We can’t thank you enough for all you’ve been doing to help kids in the most challenging circumstances reach for their dreams. This fun activity will help you nurture the young dreamers in your life and watch their dreams come true, too! It’s a wonderful, creative way to show children how much you believe in them and their futures.
What you need:
- A clean container with a lid from your recycling bin – an empty ice-cream tub, takeaway container or coffee jar will do the trick
- Pens, coloured markers, paper, stickers, scissors, tape and any other craft supplies you have in the cupboard to decorate your container
Five steps to make a Time Capsule of Dreams
Step 1: Get creative. Label and decorate your container. Make it colourful and bright!
Step 2: Write down your dreams for each other on sheets of paper and gather any keepsakes you want to store with them. If you have a little dreamer, you can ask about their dreams and write them down for them. Then they could decorate the sheets of paper to make their mark. You may also want to write your dream for your sponsored child. Make sure you include the date.
Step 3: Put everything inside your container and seal it up. Store the container in a safe place or you could even bury it in the backyard! Decide when you want to open it up again (say, in two years), and set yourself a reminder so you don’t forget.
Step 4: This is so exciting! When the time comes, open the container with your young dreamers. Read each of your dreams aloud and talk about if it has come true, or whether it’s still in progress. You can also think about how your dreams may have changed over the years.
Step 5: Do it all again. Thinking about and writing down your dreams for the future is the first step towards making them come true.
